What do you want from an art marketplace? VIP Art Fair Reviews

The VIP Art Fair launched to much fan fair on January 22nd, with extensive articles in major media outlets worldwide. It was a much anticipated day - one that we had personally been eagerly awaiting, to see what some of the biggest names in art had prepared for us.

We logged in. And we waited. Waited. Some browsing, more waiting. After spending time exploring a variety of the fairs 138 galleries, we realized we were spending a significant time waiting. Further, we were left puzzled by the navigation and search options, not to mention the need to pay $100 for access to prices and a chat function with gallerists. We wondered if we were alone in our confusion. It seems we weren’t.

It also seems that the best thing coming out of the inagural VIP Art Fair is healthy conversation. The classic questions about the online buying experience at these price points remain. But an important new question arose also - What do you want from an online marketplace? An online art viewing experience?

I’ll include links to the answers I’ve seen so far, often in the forms of critiques of the current site. But rather than share what I want, I want to hear from you. What would make your online art viewing experience the best it can be?
